2006 dodge ram pickup review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Re-engineered with new frame and fresh styling. introductionthe dodge ram has been extensively re-engineered for 2006. It has also been modestly restyled and the interior has been upgraded.  the bumper fascia, grille, headlamps, fenders and wheels are all new, but far more significant are less visible improvements, including a new hydroformed frame that's boxed its full length to provide more strength than in any previous ram. It is an exceptionally good engine, smooth and very responsive. Dodge claims the switchover is seamless, and that fuel economy is improved by as much as 20 percent. Step on the gas, however, and the cylinders reawaken, ready to deliver the 345 peak ponies that make the hemi-powered ram the most potent mass-production light-duty pickup on the market. Adding to the hemi's responsiveness is a five-speed automatic transmission.  as if the hemi wasn't enough, enthusiasts can choose the srt-10, which looks like a nascar craftsman truck and runs like a race car, with stunning performance from its viper v10 engine. Super-duty brakes and suspension help keep it on the road. The guinness book of world records called the srt-10 the world's fastest production pickup. Like other rams, the srt-10 is offered in either quad cab or regular cab configurations.  ram's popular 4. 7-liter v8, while not as powerful as the hemi or srt-10, delivers responsive performance and is smooth and sophisticated, benefiting from a modern overhead-cam design. Their cabs are comfortable and convenient, among the roomiest in their respective classes. The quad cab is handy for hauling friends and family but even the regular cab is roomy. Arguably, the ram is the best-looking truck on the market. Its styling is bold and handsome, even more so in its latest incarnation.  this may indeed be the golden age of the full-size pickup. The ford f-150 and nissan titan made headlines with their engineering. Coming soon are all-new versions of the chevrolet silverado, gmc sierra, and toyota tundra. In spite of all this, the dodge ram remains an excellent choice. However, the ram mega cab is different enough from other rams to be considered a distinct model, and we have reviewed it separately.  two bed lengths are available: a 6-foot, 3-inch short bed and an 8-foot long bed. Ordering the long bed adds 20 inches to the wheelbase. And a quad cab wheelbase is 20 inches longer than a regular cab. So a quad cab long bed has 40 more inches of wheelbase than a regular cab short bed. Quad cabs, which ride on a wheelbase 20 inches longer than comparable regular cab models, start at $24,870 with 2wd, $29,005 with 4wd.  several engines are offered: the most economical choice, one that can actually break 20 mpg on the highway, is the 3. 7-liter overhead-cam v6, rated 215 horsepower. It's the base engine in 2wd regular cabs and 2wd quad cabs with the short box. The available 4. 7-liter v8 uses modern overhead-cam heads to generate 235 horsepower. The popular 5. 7-liter hemi produces 345 horsepower. At the top end of the scale is the 8. 3-liter pushrod v10 in the srt-10, rated 500 horsepower and 525 pound-feet of torque.  a six-speed manual transmission is standard equipment with the 3. 7-liter v6 and 4. 7-liter v8. A five-speed automatic is optional with the 4. 7-liter v8 and standard with the hemi. It comes standard with air conditioning, am/fm/cd stereo, rear-wheel abs, 17-inch steel wheels and a full-size spare tire. Upholstery is vinyl, and the windows wind up manually. Options expand to include a power sunroof, power adjustable pedals, six-disc cd changer and infinity speaker system, navigation system, sirius satellite radio, uconnect bluetooth hands-free wireless communication, bucket seats with leather upholstery, six-way power driver seat and 20-inch aluminum wheels.  sport, which was an option package last year, has been promoted to a trim level for '06. It comes with the hemi engine and five-speed automatic transmission, unique bucket seats, body-color fascia and grille, fog lamps, and 20-inch chrome-clad aluminum wheels. Sport adds $7,256-$8,410 to price of an st. Leather seats are standard, with a split 40/20/40 bench up front and power adjustment for the driver. The basic look dates back a dozen years, but it received a major redesign for 2002, and now a more subtle makeover for '06. New headlamps cut back deeper into the fenders, and a flattened front bumper on sport and laramie looks even more big-rig-like than before. Dodge claims the new lights are improved 22 percent in intensity and 40 percent in beam spectrum. A thick band of chrome surrounds the grille on st, slt and laramie; the band is body color on sport models and grey on work specials. The broad, sloping hood has a pronounced crown that falls over the sides to the prominent front fenders.  moving rearward, the ram continues to present a robust appearance. A fast, raked-back windshield enhances aerodynamics and water management, while gracefully blending modern sleekness with ram's retro lower body. The leading edge of the front door overlaps the a-pillar, creating a smooth transition from the front of the cab to the side. Everything is smooth and integrated. The big side mirrors, great for visibility, are mounted on platforms to minimize wind noise, and a channel has been specially designed to keep water off of the mirrors. That seems high when trying to heave heavy gear aboard. All beds are fitted with boat cleats designed to handle 1,000 pounds each.  srt-10 features a body-color grille surround surmounted by a hungry-looking hood scoop. Additionally, srt-10 boasts its own front bumper, which looks lighter and less truckish than the standard unit and features its own gaping, air-gulping opening. A body-color aluminum tonneau cover for the pickup bed, outfitted with a unique spoiler for aerodynamic efficiency, is standard for 2006. Gas struts help in raising and lowering the tonneau cover for easy access to the pickup bed, which features a bed tray for protecting bed and cargo. interiorthe dodge ram is among the roomiest of the full-size pickups and its cab is a pleasant place to be. Its short pickup box is more than three inches shorter than a ford f-150's or chevrolet silverado's because dodge put that extra three inches into the cab. Regular cab and quad cab versions offer identical roominess in the front seats.  the ram is available with a front bench seat split 40/20/40. The narrow center section features a larg.

2007 chevrolet hhr review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Retro-suv gets power boost for 2007. introductionthe chevy hhr is a handy wagon that celebrates a heritage that dates to the 1949 gmc suburban panel delivery truck. Hhr stands for heritage high roof, and the roof of the hhr is high. The chevy hhr is built on a smaller scale, but there are no bones about its retro styling. Its retro look is best exemplified in the hhr panel van.  we found the chevy hhr to be fun to drive. It isn't a sports car, but it's nimble and we were pleased with its acceleration. The hhr feels more responsive than its horsepower, torque, and transmission ratio numbers suggest. Plus, it gets decent fuel economy.  the interior wasn't as functional as we'd have liked, however, and the base cloth fabric left us wishing we'd ordered the optional leather.  the chevrolet hhr was launched as a new model in 2006, and it remains relatively unchanged for 2007 with the exception of slightly more powerful engines and a few additional new color choices. New exterior color options for 2007 include imperial blue metallic and golden teal metallic; a new interior color option is ebony.  the hhr is built on the platform of the chevy cobalt compact and incorporates its best features: engine, transmission and suspension. The hhr is meant to compete against the chrysler pt cruiser, as well as the honda element. It also serves as an alternative to a jeep liberty or ford escape.  the panel van lt features smooth, windowless side panels and rear cargo doors with no handles. The rear cargo doors open via an instrument panel button. lineupthe chevrolet hhr comes in ls and two grads of lt trim, 1lt and 2lt. The pioneer sound system is optional.  safety features include optional front and rear side-curtain airbags 395). Abs comes standard on the 2lt, and is optional for the ls and 1lt 400). Electronic stability control is not available. walkaroundif there's ever been a case of a picture of a so-called suv being worth a thousand words, the hhr should be it. It looks like a 1949 panel delivery truck, with the edges smoothed over. The big grille is chrome, every inch of it, and looks almost exactly like the '49 suburban grille. The headlights, however, are modern glittering wedges, containing one big beam and the turn signal.  the front and rear bumpers are molded plastic, unlike the steel in the body. Technically, they may be part of the fascia, but because they take the conspicuous shape of bumpers, they are more like square lumps extending from the extremities of the vehicle.  the glass runs neatly uninterrupted all around the vehicle, with five rectangular windows from b-pillar around the rear to b-pillar. There's something about the simple shape of these windows that gives the hhr a low-rider look, although the roof itself is relatively high, as the name declares. Roof rails are almost useless without crossbars. It features shaved rear door handles. The lack of windows adds security for valuables inside. This design also lends itself to wraps and customization. interiorthe tan cloth interior, despite its name of cashmere cloth, looks like upholstery that might be found in an inexpensive furnished rental unit. Speaking of headroom, there isn't a lot of it, in spite of the high roof.  there's no significant storage in any console between the seats; two cupholders and one slot is all. The door pockets are small. There's a useful flip-up compartment on top of the dash, however, as well as a small glovebox.  in the rear, there's one cupholder and small door pockets. Even operating the driver's window, at toll booths for example, requires leaning forward and reaching down. Window switches should be on the driver's door.  the turn signal makes a loud, rapid, annoying click. The rearview mirror blocks a significant chunk of forward visibility out the smallish windshield.  the gauges and controls are standard gm issue. Superfluous chrome rings and trim, and instruments designed to look cool, rather than to be easily readable. One good thing (even if it is bright chrome) is the door handle, an ergonomically correct ring which actuates with a horizontal inward pull.  if the hhr misses on the little interior things, at least the cargo storage possibilities are excellent, although the total cargo area of 55. 6 cubic feet is 8. 4 less than in the pt cruiser. The rear split 60/40 seat folds flat very easily, as does the front passenger seat; and since the 60-percent side of the rear seat is on the left, a long item like a ladder can be slipped in diagonally, a nice feature. The rear cargo floor flips up to reveal a five-inch-deep tray useful for storage. The rear liftgate is one piece, and raises easily.  legroom is lacking in the rear seat. Kids are always fine, as long as three of them can share one drink. We actually carried six 10-year-old boys on a soccer team for 60 miles in the hhr, and they were all happy, even the two who squeezed into the way-back. Adults wouldn't be as happy in the hhr's back seats.  the panel van has a rubberized floor that should be good for delivery or business or hobby uses. Rearward visibility is poor, however. driving impressionthe chevy hhr's 2. 4-liter ecotec is a wonderful little engine, and it has a slight boost in horsepower and torque numbers for 2007. It makes 175 horsepower and 165 pound-feet of torque at 5000 rpm, numbers which don't indicate anything special. In fact, that torque peak suggests that the low-rpm pulling power might be weak. We drive up a steep, slow hill every day, and the hhr plugged up the hill like a tractor, with no shifting-down of the automatic transmission.  transmission ratios have a lot to do with this efficient delivery of power. The automatic includes remote starting, and climbing into a toasty car on icy mornings after starting it from a warm house during morning coffee is a nice luxury. We liked the way the automatic could be easily manually downshifted, even though it doesn't feature a separate manual mode. And we liked how it held second gear going down that same steep, slow hill.  acceleration was equally impressive. Onto the freeway, foot on the floor, and the hhr 2lt really scoots, which makes it a lot of fun. The 2. 4-liter engine is quiet, thanks partly to special laminated steel in the firewall.  the 2. 4-liter engine is efficient, also. It gets the same epa-rated 22/27 mpg city/highway (with manual transmission) as the standard 149 hp, 2. 2-liter engine. Premium fuel is recommended but not required for the 2. 4-liter. During one week in the 2lt, we averaged 23. 4 miles per gallon, as indicated by the digital data on the dash. That included mostly around-town driving, plus about 120 freeway miles with a full load o. 2010 chevrolet impala flx fuel review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Practical, roomy, value. introductionthe chevrolet impala is a big, roomy sedan. While classified as a mid-size sedan, it's large for that class. Close in size to the toyota avalon, it competes with mid-size and full-size cars. Among them: the ford taurus, chrysler 300, dodge charger, honda accord, toyota camry, and nissan altima.  we find the impala's neat, clean lines pleasing to the eye. Its styling looks contemporary, handsome, and clean. Inside, there's lots of room, in the front as well as the back seats, and getting in and out is easy. The impala has a big trunk with a big lid that simplifies loading cargo, and it has a generous capacity. Optional flip-and-fold-forward rear seats are exclusive in its class, and provide not only holding wells for groceries but a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items.  on the road, the impala is very stable, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the larger of the two available v6 engines, a 3. 9-liter v6 with advanced technologies. Step on the gas and it goes. Given its size, the impala handles well, and surprisingly so.  there are three trim levels, ranging from a sensible, reliable, and fuel-efficient family sedan to a more luxurious version with commendable performance and a good complement of features, and the two available v6 engines are dependable, responsive and efficient, while delivering ample performance.  chevrolet continues to improve and upgrade the impala. Two important standard features are stabilitrak, general motors' electronic stability control system that includes the function of traction control, and the latest generation of onstar, which will automatically communicate the nature and severity of a crash as well as its location to the call center.  changes for 2010 are few. Options include an engine block heater 75), 40/20/40 front bench seat 195), and a flip-and-fold-forward rear seat 295).  the impala lt 25,055) upgrades to 16-inch aluminum wheels, leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls and more interior conveniences. Options include leather upholstery 1,125), sunroof 900), universal garage door opener 100), and rear spoiler 275).  the impala lt luxury edition package 2,270) includes leather trim, an upgraded onstar with directions and connections and turn-by-turn navigation, heated front seats, six-way power front passenger's seat, bose premium eight-speaker audio system, flip-and-fold-forward rear seat, and a rear spoiler.  the impala ltz 29,630) comes standard with the equipment of the lt, plus the 238-horsepower 3. 9-liter v6 engine and the fe3 performance suspension. Standard wheels are 18-inch machined alloys with p235/55r18 tires.  safety features that come standard on all impalas include dual front airbags, side-curtain roof-mounted airbags for front- and rear-seat passengers, thorax side-impact airbags, anti-lock brakes (abs) with electronic brake-force distribution (ebd), stabilitrak with traction control and tire-pressure monitoring. walkaroundthe impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car.  the big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise.  aside from minor badging, the only exterior differentiations among the trim levels are the wheels and the standard rear spoiler on the ltz. interiorthe impala has a lot going for it inside as well. The standard seats have fairly firm cushions and decent lumbar support compared to previous models. A twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are a grade above average.  the dual-zone climate control system is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side-to-side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff.  the base audio system comes with six speakers, am/fm/cd/mp3 capability, and xm satellite radio. It features speed-sensing volume control and a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. Not so with gm's radios. The impala sound system is sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional system adds an in-dash six-cd changer. The premium audio system is bose. Turn-by-turn navigation directs the driver through the route by using the digital readout lines in the radio head. Directions are downloaded by the onstar advisor to the vehicle and can be played back or paused anywhere from start to destination. Besides being easy to use (all directions are downloaded to the car by an advisor) turn-by-turn is less expensive than a gps navigation system.  the back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down, and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions.  the 3. 5-liter e85-compatible v6 that's standard on the ls and lt has variable valve timing and generates 207 horsepower and 215 pound-feet of torque. It gets an epa-rated 18/29 mpg city/highway on gasoline and 14/22 city/highway on e85 ethanol.  the 3. 9-liter e85-compatible v6 has variable valve timing and produces 230 horsepower and 238 pound-feet of torque. The rear suspension uses a multi-link setup with gas-charged struts, coil springs, and a stabilizer bar. Ls and lt models come with the softer fe1 suspension, while the ltz has the performance-tuned fe3 setup and more responsive handling.

2002 chrysler pt cruiser review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. And it’s practical, too. introductionit was only a matter of time. This year, as if the pt cruiser needed something to make it stand out, chrysler is offering flames as an option. Or maybe just go back in time.  flames or no flames, there's nothing on the road quite like the pt cruiser. Though it has become a familiar site, it still attracts attention., and that's a big part of its fun. People from all walks and stations want a better look, intrigued by the cruiser's difficult-to-define character. It is, as chrysler says, too cool to categorize.  yet the really great thing about the pt cruiser is its combination of practicality and reasonable price. Its affordability and practicality make it suitable for everyday use by everyday people. When it comes to automotive styling, however, pictures speak louder than words. Yet with 63 inches from pavement to the highest point of its roof, the cruiser is also 7 inches taller than a neon, and nearly as tall as some minivans. That height is a crucial element of the pt cruiser's design.  the pt cruiser has a thorough complement of safety features. Front passenger side-impact airbags are standard on the limited edition and optional on the other models. Seatbelts should always be worn, however, and the pt cruiser comes with three-point safety harnesses at all positions-including the rear seat's center position. The front belts have pyrotechnically charged tensioners, just like luxury cars, to keep the belts tight during an impact. The rear bench is equipped with child-seat tethers. interiorinside, the cruiser's t-shaped symmetrical dashboard uses painted inserts to pull exterior styling themes into the cabin. The instrument panel is clean, functional and aesthetically pleasing. The driver faces three white-faced gauges set in individual cylinders, with speedometer center, tachometer right and fuel and water temperature left. Switches are concentrated in the center panel, with radial-type climate control dials and a single pair of buttons for the front windows. The door levers have a nice action and the switches operate with good tactile feel -- not world class, but a noticeable improvement over chrysler's sloppy mid-'90s standard.  the same improvement applies to the interior finish. The leather package, in particular, has a rich appearance, given the cruiser's price, with suede inserts in the doors and along the lower cushion edges.  the front seats have a reasonable amount of bolster to keep driver and passenger from sliding side to side. Perhaps more important, the seating position is upright, with a fairly high, commanding view ahead, much like a sport-utility vehicle or minivan. And with 120. 2 cubic feet of interior volume, there's no premium on space in the pt cruiser. The government's standard for defining a large car, like the mercedes-benz s-class or lincoln town car, is 120 cubic feet.  all that space is largely a function of the cruiser's height. Its roof rises toward the rear, and its rear seat bottoms are higher than those in front are. The front seats are mounted on tall boxes, leaving plenty of room for rear passengers to stretch their legs underneath. An auto critic who stands six feet-nine-inches tall fit comfortably front or rear, in his preferred upright seating position. A passenger-side armrest has been added along with an underseat storage bin.  chrysler claims the pt cruiser's cabin can be configured 26 different ways. We didn't count, but there are clearly a lot of options. This flexibility stems from three features: a 65/35 split rear bench that can be folded flat, tumbled forward or removed, a movable parcel shelf, and an available front passenger seat that folds flat. The rear seats are anchored with quick-release attachments, and fitted with suitcase-style handles for lifting and steel wheels for rolling. The smaller section weighs 35 pounds, and the larger, 65. The load floor measures 40 inches between the wheel wells. The rear cabin has lots of tie-downs, including a pair on the center pillars that can be used with various seat configurations.  the parcel shelf and front passenger seat increase hauling options. The shelf can be positioned at the top of the rear seatbacks for a standard privacy cover over the cargo hold. It can be lowered to a level that creates a flat floor when the rear seat backs are folded forward. In can be installed vertically across the width of the cabin to divide the cargo hold, or hung out of the tailgate as a small table. It can also be turned over so its hard-plastic underside acts like a large tray, containing drops from dripping paint cans or mud from work boots.  with the front passenger seatback folded flat onto the bottom cushion, there's a table next to the driver and in front of the rear passengers. Even better, there can be more than 8 feet of flat surface between the dashboard and the tailgate. Tipping the scales at about 3123 pounds with the manual transmission, the pt cruiser sports a power to weight ratio of about 21:1. The 2. 4 happens to be the base engine in chrysler's minivans; for the cruiser, improvements were geared toward reducing noise and vibration rather than increasing power. Peak horsepower remains at 150, with 162 foot-pounds of torque. The shifter is surprisingly precise; it's not sports-car grade, but not bad for a longer-throw gate with a lever that's a foot long. Working the gears to get the most from the engine is a pleasant proposition in nearly all circumstances.  the automatic isn't as effective as the five-speed at getting the cruiser cruising, because the power is biased toward higher rpm. With properly timed dips of the accelerator, there's enough torque for safe, clean overtaking on two-lane roads.  the cruiser handles more like a sedan than a minivan. It will hustle with good composure and reasonable verve. Body lean is well controlled. By design, the cruiser understeers moderately, a push that warns a driver to slow down through curves. The cruiser's strut-type independent front suspension is similar to the neon's. Its rear suspension design maximizes cargo space, but the solid rear axle bounces a bit on rough pavement. Overall, however, chrysler's suspension engineers have delivered a good balance of handling and a comfortable ride.  they've also done a fine job of masking the cruiser's height. Only in quick, hard, slalom-type maneuvers does the pt cruiser start get top heavy. Yet most drivers will never drive hard enough to notice. And in sudden, emergency-type lane changes, the pt cruiser is more composed than the typical sport-utility or minivan. At speeds beyond legal interstate limits, the cruiser is stable, and not particularly susceptible to cross winds.  a lack of noise may be the most impressive, or surprising, of all the pt cruiser's qualities. 2006 dodge ram review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. The narrow center section features a large fold-.

2009 chevrolet cobalt review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Now more powerful and economical. introductionthe chevrolet cobalt is a good option for inexpensive, high-value transportation. The cobalt is quiet and refined for a small car and it delivers crisp handling and a smooth ride, all benefits of its strong, rigid platform. With its all-around competence, the cobalt compares well with the honda civic, toyota corolla, and ford focus. This engine when equipped with the five-speed manual is being marketed as the cobalt xfe for 2009. Economy is further enhanced by new 15-inch low rolling resistance tires, and by a longer-legged (3. 63:1, vs. 3. 84) final drive ratio on manual transmission models. These are basic models with wind-up windows and manually operated mirrors. Tires are low-rolling-resistance 195/60r15s on 15-inch steel wheels. Options are limited, but include an automatic transmission 925).  cobalt lt 16,460) sedan and coupe get upgraded upholstery, adjustable lumbar support for the driver, power windows and door locks, and other amenities, including woodgrain trim. Options include cruise control 275), sunroof 750), seven-speaker pioneer audio 295), remote vehicle starter 190) for automatic models, heated leather seats 795), and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with audio and cruise controls and bluetooth wireless connectivity 245).  the 2lt option package 2,500) bundles abs; stabilitrak; the automatic transmission; color-keyed bodyside moldings; 205/55r16 tires on more stylish, plastic-faced wheels; cruise control; and a trunk cargo net. The sport appearance package 995) includes a rear spoiler, larger body-color fascias and rocker moldings; 17-inch polished aluminum wheels with performance tires; chrome exhaust tip; fog lamps; white-face sport gauges; leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter knob; and steering wheel audio controls. A chrome exterior package 395) includes a chrome grille, bodyside moldings and door handles.  cobalt ss coupe and sedan 23,425) are powered by a 260-horsepower, 2. 0-liter turbocharged engine and come with upgraded suspension and brakes, sport seats with suede-like inserts, additional gauges, fog lamps, and spoilers and air dams all around. A heavy-duty five-speed is the only transmission offered. Tires are 225/40r18 summer-performance continentals on 18-inch forged aluminum wheels. A configurable lcd display 295) for the ss coupe allows the driver to select from a variety of performance measurements, including 0-60 mph and quarter-mile acceleration, braking performance and cornering grip (g load).  onstar comes standard on all models. It also includes the general motors advanced automatic crash notification (aacn) system, making crash data available to participating 911 centers to help them dispatch the appropriate live-saving personnel and equipment.  safety features include dual-stage front air bags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, rear center shoulder belts, and the latch child seat retention system. Head-curtain side airbags are standard on all models, as is a tire pressure monitor. Ss and 2lt come with stabilitrak electronic stability control. Anti-lock brakes (abs) are standard on ss and 2lt, optional 400) on lt and ls; the system includes traction control on cobalts with automatic transmission. walkaroundthe chevy cobalt is built on gm's delta platform, which it shares with the saturn astra and european-market opel astra. But with its single-bar grille and bowtie emblem, cobalt looks like a proper chevrolet small car right down to its shoes and socks.  body panel fits are extremely tight. So tight, in fact, that there are no rubber trim gaskets around cobalt's compound complex headlamps.  the coupe weighs about 50 pounds less than the sedan, an insignificant amount.  cobalt is longer, wider and lower than most of its direct competitors. Its interior dimensions and trunk capacity are comparable for the class.  the cobalt ss is distinguished by its front fascia with integrated air dam and projector-beam fog lights. Upper and lower grilles both sport a specific diamond-mesh texture. Rocker extensions are also unique to the ss, and a rear deck-lid spoiler is standard. The standard spoiler can be replaced with big wing. Materials are decent and the fit and finish are good. Overall, it's comparable for the class. There's just enough chrome trim here and there on knobs and instruments to brighten things up without a lot of glare from the shiny parts. Instruments are large, well placed, and easy to read, with nice graphic treatment throughout.  cobalt uses different seats in the different trim levels, each with detail changes in foam, padding and trim. We found plenty of fore/aft and rake adjustment for a 6-foot, 4-inch driver, plus seat height adjustment with a ratcheting handle. The lt seats were very comfortable and grabbed us in the fast corners exactly where we needed to be grabbed and held. Even better were the optional leather-trimmed seats, which come with electric heat.  inside the ss are sport seats embroidered with the ss-logo and enhanced with suede-like ultralux inserts. A specific gauge package includes an a-pillar-mounted turbo boost gauge.  the available pioneer seven-speaker sound system with the delphi am/fm/cd delivers good sound and includes a huge subwoofer mounted on the left side trunk wall. The urethane steering wheel that comes on ls and lt models feels cheap. The leather-wrapped wheel that's optional on the cobalt lt is much nicer.  rear-seat passengers pay a price for the coupe's sporty looks. Headroom, legroom, and hip room are reduced by 2 inches, 1. 5 inches, and 3. 5 inches, respectively; enough to make the difference between a comfortable place for adults and one best left to pre-adolescents. Therefore, the coupe is a good choice for drivers who are usually alone or with a friend, while the sedan is the better choice for drivers who often find themselves with two or three passengers.  the trunk in the sedan is wide and deep with a low lift-over height, and almost 14 cubic feet of capacity, more than competitive in the class, though the opening to the trunk seems relatively small. The trunk lid uses outside corner hinges and two hydraulic assist struts instead of gooseneck hinges that can squash groceries when the lid is closed. The coupe has the same trunk volume but an even smaller trunk opening, making it difficult to stow a thick suitcase. A 60/40-split, fold-down rear seat with a trunk pass-through feature adds utility to both sedan and coupe. driving impressionthe chevrolet cobalt is quite pleasant to drive. It's quiet for a car that can be bought for less than $20,000. Chevrolet put considerable effort into special door seals, sandwich steel panels, thick carpets and pads, noise blockers and noise absorbers throughout the front, middle and rear of the car. As a result, normal front-seat conversation is possible at speeds above 90 mph.  we found the 148-hp engine used on 2008 models lacking in low-rpm power. For 2009, the rated horsepower is up slightly, to 155 hp, but more important the new variable valve timing system should fatten the torque curve considerably, making this 2. 2-liter engine feel more powerful through wider range of speeds.  epa-estimated fuel economy with the 2. 2-liter engine, manual transmission, and standard low-rolling-resistance tires is 25/37 mpg city/highway. With any of the larger tire options that slips slightly to 25/35 mpg, which is still within 1 mpg of any of. 2007 chevrolet impala review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Upgrades improve this recently redesigned sedan. introductionthe chevrolet impala is a comfortable and convenient car, practical and enjoyable to drive. We find its neat, clean lines pleasing to the eye. Its styling looks fresh and it is. The impala benefits from its recent redesign for 2006.  several upgrades and refinements for 2007 make for a better car: the available 3. 9-liter v6 gets gm's active fuel management system, which idles cylinders at certain times for improved fuel economy. A tire-pressure monitor comes standard. Onstar comes standard and has been upgraded for 2007, offering the new turn-by-turn navigation service. And onstar will automatically communicate the nature and severity of a crash as well as its location to the 911 centers.  the impala is a big car. It's generally classified as a mid-size sedan, though it's large for that class, and nearly a full-size. The front and back seats are roomy, though not inordinately so given the size of this car, and getting in and out of the car is easy. And it has a healthy cargo capacity. It has a huge trunk and flip-and-fold back seats that present holding wells for groceries or a flat cargo floor that expands the trunk for long items.  it's very stable on the open road, a nice cruiser. There's lots of low-end torque from the larger of the two available v6 engines, the 3. 9-liter v6. Step on the gas and it goes. And it handles well, in fact surprisingly well given its size.  several models are available, ranging from strong, reliable, fuel-efficient family sedan to sleek and powerful performance car. The mid-level impala lt probably best exemplifies the model line. We like the lt with the optional 3. 9-liter v6 engine, which gets gm's active fuel management system for 2007, which improves real-world fuel economy. The ltz adds leather and other convenience features. Anti-lock brakes are optional 600). The flip & fold-flat rear seats 275) are available. Leather seating surfaces are optional 1,125), which comes with heated front seats and a six-way power passenger seat. A flex-fuel version of the v6 can burn e85 ethanol; it's standard in some states, optional in others.  lt 21,440) upgrades to dual-zone air conditioning, bucket seats with six-way power for the driver, abs, traction control, dual exhaust, fog lights, 16-inch aluminum wheels, remote starter, and interior power outlets. The standard engine is the 3. 5-liter v6. The ss comes with 18-inch wheels and tires, a performance suspension, and leather-appointed seats.  for 2007, xm satellite radio is standard on ss; optional on ls, lt and ltz.  safety features that come standard on all impalas include dual front smart air bags and side-curtain roof-mounted air bags for front- and rear-seat passengers. All but the base ls model come standard with anti-lock brakes (abs) and traction control. walkaroundthe chevrolet impala presents a clean, neat, pleasing design that's not so homogenized as to be boring. It's an attractive car.  launched as a 2006 model, the design features smooth lines. The big headlamps have a premium, jeweled appearance with three independent lighting units and are smoothly integrated into the front end. The tail lights are nicely integrated as well. Flat-blade windshield wipers provide consistent pressure on the glass, which helps eliminate streaking and wind noise.  the ls, lt and ltz are distinguished by exterior trim but share one front end design, while the ss sports a completely different design that includes a dual-split grille with ss-signature black-diamond crosshatch pattern. The impala ss also features corvette-inspired bright exhaust tips. A rear spoiler is standard on ltz and ss models, and is available on lt. interiorthe impala has a lot going for it inside as well. The cabin was completely redesigned for 2006 and, overall, we found it comfortable.  the standard seats have firmer cushions and increased lumbar support than previous models. We didn't find the ss seats particularly comfortable or supportive, however, with too much lumbar support and not enough side bolstering to retain the upper body in corners. Optional leather-covered seating has a new style of seams around the perimeter and french seams on the center sections.  a twin-brow instrument panel wraps around into the doors. Impala ls, lt and ltz models have wood trim, with brushed silver trim optional. The ss comes standard with unique metallic trim panels, with wood as an option. We found the instrument panel pleasing to the eye, colorful, entertaining and easy to use, with a nice all-of-a-piece unity and style to it. Interior materials are at least one grade better than the usual chevrolet stuff.  the dual-zone climate control system that comes on all but the base ls model is a snap to use, with large, round control knobs and good markings. It can support up to a 12-degree temperature difference side to side. The optional remote engine start system comes with a 200-foot operating range and automatic climate pre-conditioning to warm or cool the interior. The glovebox is large enough to actually hold stuff.  a new family of audio systems features radios compatible with generation 7. 0 onstar. The base audio system includes am/fm/cd and six speakers. An optional mp3/cd-radio is configured for xm satellite radio, with a two-line, 32-character display and the capability to select freely between am, fm and xm. Setting these presets is as easy as holding the button down. A big round knob in the center allows quick volume adjustments. Too many radios nowadays are too complex or have tiny buttons difficult to operate underway. More of them should be like gm's radios. It's sophisticated yet easy to operate. The optional icdx radio adds an in-dash six-cd changer. All radios include a standard auxiliary input jack for external devices such as an ipod or remote cassette player.  the back seat is roomy and comfortable for two adults or three kids, but not three adults. The forward-flipping rear seat cushions reveal a storage tub underneath that can contain spills or transport a variety of items. The tub also serves as a covered storage area beneath the seat with cushions down; and exposes convenient grocery bag hooks when the cushions are flipped forward. A generous pass-through from the trunk can be created by flipping the seat bottoms forward and the seat backs flat.  the trunk is larger than that of most mid-size cars, at 18. 6 cubic feet, and a huge trunk opening makes loading easier. driving impressionthe chevrolet impala features a new generation of v6 engines. We found them to be smooth and quiet if not bristling with power. They feature variable valve timing, which changes the orientation of the camshaft, automatically adjusting the timing of the intake and exhaust valves for better performance, economy, and emissions.  the 3. 5-liter v6 (standard on ls and lt) generates 211 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque. We haven't seen epa fuel economy estimates, but we expect an impala with this engine to earn fuel ratings of about 19/29 mpg city/highway.  the 3. 9-liter v6 (optional on lt, standard on ltz) produces 233 horsepower and 240 pound-feet of torque. It adds a variable-length intake system to variable valve timing. New for 2007 is active fuel management, electronic software that shuts off three cylinders when full power is not needed. Chevrolet says active fuel management improves fuel economy by up to 8 percent in certain driving situations. Chevrolet has applied this technology before to v8s, but this is its first appearance on a v6.

2013 chevrolet silverado 2500 review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Smooth-riding heavy-duty hauler. introductionthe chevrolet silverado hd is the least commercial of the heavy-duty pickups, with a smoother ride, more precise steering, and more carlike interior, yet its capability is on par with the other big trucks. The 2013 chevrolet silverado fares well with super duty and has ram lightly beat on conventional towing and payload maximums, but the ram bests ford and chevrolet by more than three tons on max fifth-wheel or gooseneck ratings.  2013 silverado hd can be configured to carry 7,222 pounds in 3500 dual-rear wheel configuration or 4,212 pounds in 2500. Properly equipped, a silverado 3500 can tow a trailer of 23,100 pounds. (note: no full-size pickup can carry peak payload and tow peak rating simultaneously.)  chevrolet silverado hd was completely redesigned for the 2007 model year and re-engineered for 2011. Changes for the 2013 model year are minimal. Among them: a 2500 extended cab cng model, the full 397-hp rated duramax option on chassis cabs and box-delete pickups, and new deep ruby and blue topaz paints.  the 6. 0-liter v8 gas engine and 6-speed automatic are fully capable, but the big towing numbers require the 6. 6-liter duramax diesel with 397 hp and more than twice the torque of the gas v8. Everything in the suspension, steering, brakes, frame and ancillary systems is built to complement the diesel power. It comes as a regular cab long bed (8 feet), an extended cab with standard bed (6-foot, 7-inch) or long bed, or crew cab with standard bed or long bed. The 3500-series (1-ton) is all long-bed except for a 3500 crew cab standard bed with single rear wheels. All dual rear wheel models have the long bed. Fuel capacities range from 26 to 36 gallons on most versions.  standard silverado hd power is a 6. 0-liter gasoline v8 rated 360 horsepower and 380 pound-feet of torque in 2500 pickups and 322 hp, 380 pound-feet in all 3500 and box-delete 2500. The 6. 0-liter comes solely with a 6-speed automatic transmission and 3. 73:1 or 4. 10:1 axle ratio.  a 6. 6-liter diesel (lml) is an option 8395) for nearly every model and rated at 397 hp and 765 lb-ft of torque. The diesel comes with the superb allison 6-speed automatic transmission and 3. 73:1 ratio. The diesel is b20-biodiesel approved.  three trim levels are available, wt, lt and ltz, though not every configuration is available. Ltz is limited to extended and crew cab models. Expect to add $2,000-$3,000 to move from regular cab to extended or extended to crew cab, about $200 from standard bed to long bed, and about $3,000 for 4wd. lineupsilverado hd wt models are work and fleet trucks. They come with gray vinyl upholstery, rubberized floor covering, black door handles and mirrors, steel wheels and floor-shift for 4wd. They also include air conditioning, am/fm stereo, driver info center with trip computer, 40/20/40 manual-recline front seats, rear bench seat (split 60/40 in crew cab), tilt wheel, chrome grille and bumpers, tow hooks, intermittent wipers, and dual dash power outlets. Options on wt include radio upgrade, onstar 295), 18-inch wheels, camper mirrors, locking differential 325), trailering equipment, power windows, power mirrors, power locks, integrated trailer brake controller and deep-tint glass.  silverado hd lt versions are upgraded with cloth upholstery, carpeting (though the wt floor is available), 40/20/40 front seat with locking console storage, split-fold rear seat, am/fm/xm/cd/mp3 rds stereo, onstar with six months' service, aluminum wheels, power heated mirrors, power windows, power door locks, visor vanity mirror/lights, side moldings and electric-shift for 4wd. Ltz options include a universal garage door opener, locking ez-lift tailgate, adjustable pedals, rear park assist, rear wheelhouse liners, navigation/camera, rear-seat entertainment system 1,480), moonroof 995), power sliding rear window, power heated camper mirrors and 20-inch wheels on 2500.  optional on all trim levels are roof marker lamps 55), skid plates 150), snow-plow prep for 4wd and camper/fifth-wheel wiring 35). Dual 125-amp alternators 270), fast-idle switch 200) and radiator covers 55) for cold states are optional on diesel models.  safety equipment includes frontal airbags, front seat belt pretensioners, and stabilitrak on single-rear wheel models. Optional equipment includes front-side airbags and front side-curtain airbags (2500), onstar, backup cameras and integrated trailer brake controller. walkaroundthough substantially revised for 2011, the looks of the chevrolet silverado hd haven't changed much since the 2006 model.  from the windshield back the body panels haven't changed for five years; only different wheels and some minor differences to the rear styling show. The front of the truck was revised for the 2011 model year, and the result made the truck look bigger, with a big grille and cooling duct in the bumper to cool the more powerful diesel. Where not standard as they are on duallies, the roof marker lamps, one each side and three in a pod in the center, are optional. The single rear wheel trucks have slightly flared rear fenders that mimic those of the dual-rear-wheel versions.  styling differences distinguish the chevrolet silverado hd from the gmc sierra hd.  with the big chrome crossbar and bow-tie logo the silverado hd heavy-duty pickup is immediately recognized as a chevrolet and maintains visual relationships to the silverado 1500 light-duty pickup. The wt work truck models come with this cabin. At the other extreme is an ltz cabin, which has a dash similar to that of the suburban with a single glovebox, configurable center console and woodgrain trim.  we found no obvious difference in build quality between the cabin designs, and the apparent level of luxury imparted in ltz models varies by.

2007 chevrolet cobalt review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Solid compact gets more power, more features. introductionwith its expressive styling and all-around competence, the chevrolet cobalt competes effectively against the honda civic, toyota corolla, and ford focus. That's an impressive achievement, considering how long the competition has dominated this game.  the cobalt is quiet and refined for a small car. Premium features are available like heated leather seats, xm satellite radio, mp3, and onstar.  the ss models offer a dynamic driving experience. Driving the ss supercharged model is an absolute hoot. Quick, responsive handling and brisk acceleration performance along with a sporty-sounding exhaust note make the supercharged coupe entertaining to drive, a sport compact that can more than hold its own in the class.  new for 2007, the 2. 2-liter and 2. 4-liter ecotec engines get slightly more power. A remote vehicle starter is available on models with an automatic transmission 190). Standard equipment has been upgraded to include am/fm stereo with cd and auxiliary input jack and three-spoke steering wheel. An am/fm stereo with in-dash six-cd player and mp3 playback is a new option for 2007. A new exterior color option is sport red tintcoat. Three different engines are available with suspensions tuned to match.  the ls, lt, and ltz models are powered by a 148-horsepower 2. 2-liter engine and use the fe1 suspension.  the ls 13,790) sedan and coupe come standard with air conditioning, cloth upholstery with height-adjustable front seats and a 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, automatic headlights, electric rear defogger, tilt steering column, cd player with auxiliary jack, and a driver information center. Ls models come with wind-up windows and manually operated mirrors, front disc/rear drum brakes, and 15-inch wheels and tires. Ls models have a body-color grille and door handles. The ltz sedan 18,790) is a premium model that comes standard with the automatic transmission, along with upgraded audio and premium trim.  ss 18,210) coupe and sedan get a 173-hp 2. 4-liter engine, the fe3 sports suspension, 17-inch wheels and high performance tires. Ss also gets upgraded cloth, special body-color trim and other upgrades. The sport package 595) includes a brushed metal trim package for the dashboard, white-faced gauges, leather-wrapped steering wheel and shifter, rear spoiler and 16-inch alloy wheels with pirelli tires.  safety features include dual-stage front air bags, front seatbelt pre-tensioners, rear center shoulder belts, and the latch child seat retention system. All but ls come standard with anti-lock brakes (abs). Head curtain side air bags 395) designed to provide head protection are optional. But with its single-bar grille and bowtie emblem, it looks like a proper chevrolet small car right down to its shoes and socks.  body panel fits are extremely tight. So tight, in fact, that there are no rubber trim gaskets around the compound complex headlamps.  the coupe bears a resemblance to the cavalier it replaced, though it shares nothing else with it. The sedan features a more modern roofline sweep. The ss coupe and sedan models have a small rear spoiler, while the ss supercharged coupe carries a huge, tall rear spoiler than says it's a serious sport compact.  cobalt is longer, wider and lower than most of its direct competitors and its interior dimensions and trunk capacity are comparable for the class. interiorthe design theme inside the cobalt is simple and straightforward. Materials are decent and the fit and finish is good and comparable for the class. Even better were the leather-trimmed seats in the ss supercharged.  the available pioneer seven-speaker sound system with the delphi am/fm/cd and xm satellite radio delivers good sound and includes a huge subwoofer mounted on the left side trunk wall.  the heating, ventilation and defroster system worked quickly and intuitively.  the ls comes with manually operated windows. The urethane steering wheel that comes on ls and lt models feels cheap. The leather-wrapped wheels on ltz and ss models are much nicer.  the sedan trunk is wide and deep with a low lift-over height, and almost 14 cubic feet of capacity, more than competitive in the class, though the opening to the trunk seems relatively small. Cobalt does not use space-eating gooseneck hinges on its decklid, opting instead for simple outside corner hinges and two hydraulic assist struts. The coupe has a small trunk opening, making it difficult to fit a thick suitcase. A 60/40-split, fold-down rear seat with a trunk pass-through feature adds utility to both sedan and coupe. driving impressionthe chevrolet cobalt is quite pleasant to drive, especially the ss models. It's quiet for a car that retails for less than $20,000. Chevrolet put considerable effort into special door seals, sandwich steel panels, thick carpets and pads, noise blockers and noise absorbers throughout the front, middle and rear of the car. The brakes seemed a little mushy on the ls, which comes with rear drum brakes.  the 2. 2-liter engine, which is rated at 148 horsepower, was a bit of a disappointment. It was smooth, but never felt truly powerful until it was revving very high. We like the way it sounded when it revved and, paired with the manual gearbox, it offered responsive performance. summarythe chevrolet cobalt will satisfy the needs of drivers looking for economy of price, economy of operation, and a nice, quiet ride. We think it's a handsome, well-equipped car. The standard engine could offer more responsive low-end power. The ss models are fun to drive, particularly the cobalt ss supercharged coupe.  newcartestdrive. Com correspondent jim mccraw reported from dearborn, michigan, with mitch mccullough reporting from los angeles. model lineupchevrolet cobalt ls 13,790); lt 14,910); ltz 18,790); ss 18,210); ss supercharged 21,110). assembled inlordstown, ohio. options as testedheated leather front bucket seats 695); side-impact head curtain air bags 395); onstar 695); xm satellite radio 199); rear spoiler 275). model testedchevrolet cobalt lt sedan 14,910). The ss supercharged coupe features a 205-horsepower 2. 0-liter engine and the high-performance fe5 suspension. 2004 nissan sentra review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Roomy and practical, with fresh styling. introductionnissan sentra gets updated styling and an upgraded interior for 2004. The changes give the sentra a more contemporary appearance with a toothy grille reminiscent of the 2004 maxima. New model designations (such as 1. 8 s and 2. 5 s) indicate which of two engines is under the hood.  the basic product and its mission have not changed, however. The sentra remains practical and frugal, roomy and comfortable. Also receiving changes for 2004 is the sentra se-r. New features include a new brake package for se-r spec v with brembo front discs, a new interior charcoal fabric and two new exterior colors – volcanic orange and sapphire blue. There are several interior upgrades as well, including a trip computer (standard on 2. 5 s, se-r and se-r spec v) and an enhanced rockford fosgate sound system. lineupthe names have changed, but the song remains the same in the sentra lineup. Gone are the xe and gxe, replaced by alphanumeric 1. 8 and 1. 8 s designations. The 1. 8 s is also available with the automatic 15,000). A road trip package 420) adds cruise control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, and am/fm/cd with seven speakers. Here, the 2. 5-liter engine puts out 165 horsepower and 175 pounds-feet of torque for quicker acceleration performance. A power sunroof package 700) is available for 1. 8 s and 2. 5 s.  se-r brings a sporty personality to the sentra. The se-r 17,100) comes with the 165-horsepower engine and an automatic transmission. To this, it adds a six-speed manual transmission, a helical limited-slip front differential, and 17-inch wheels with 215/45zr17 high-performance tires. The spec v comes with a hot lava-red interior featuring skyline-style sport seats and black and silver accents. Other options include an audio fanatic package with a 300-watt nine-speaker rockford fosgate audio system 550) and partial fold-down rear seat, and the power sunroof package 700). walkaroundthe majority of the enhancements to the 2004 sentra lineup are in exterior design. For 2004, sentra features restyled headlamps and rear combination lamps, a new smooth front and rear fascia with a fresh hood design and a distinctive grille. The changes are designed to take the styling of the sentra to a new level with more flair, making it look more stylish, assertive, and self-confident.  sentra maintains its flush-mounted, one-piece multi-parabola halogen headlamps as well as its body-color front grille, side moldings and bumpers. Handsome and solid, the basic sentra design features a low hood line, high rear deck, and strong rear fenders, with a distinct front-to-rear character line. Robust and rounded, the design was penned by nissan's california styling studio.  the se-r was designed to evoke the image of the nissan skyline, a sports sedan legendary in the japan market for its performance. For 2004, the sport-inspired sentra se-r receives several body enhancements, including new front and rear fascia, new headlamp shapes, and a restyled hood. A rear spoiler and large chrome exhaust tips indicate the intent of the se-r.  the term compact is relative, as all of these cars seem to grow over time. In all but the base model, the seats adjust for height with dual lifters. Driver and passenger sit relatively high in the hip area, making getting in and out easier.  new for 2004, se-r gets new charcoal-colored fabric. The seats in the se-r are supportive, with big side bolsters. One knob on the side adjusts the front half of the seat bottom; another knob adjusts the rear half. Leather covers the se-r's steering wheel and gearshift knob. New fabric upholstery for the se-r spec v features silver accents.  red markings on black gauges are difficult to read on bright days with sunglasses on (there's a surprise), but they look cool at night. Stereo controls are positioned high on the center console, making them easy to adjust, and the metallic trim of the faceplate matches the latest in trendy continental design. Other controls are straightforward and easy to use. Sentra is equipped with generous cabin storage, including a center-console with lid and a large glove box. A compartment on top of the dash is useful for storing a wallet or sunglasses. The cup holders work well for standard-size cans and cups. For 2004, a trip computer comes standard on all models with the 2. 5-liter engine.  the rear seats can accommodate grownups, and all seating positions provide good breathing room. All three rear-seat positions have three-point belts, though three back there is a crowd. This is equipment that many bigger sedans didn't have just five years ago.  the trunk is big, with 11. 6 cubic feet of cargo space. The 60/40 split folding rear seatback can be unlatched from the trunk (difficult to figure out without help), making the sentra a versatile cargo hauler. The available fosgate subwoofer reduces versatility, taking up space and reducing the size of the passthrough.  the optional fosgate stereo sounds fantastic with crisp bass and clear highs and no clipping at high volumes, but the controls are on the small side. For 2004, the system has been enhanced for improved sound quality. driving impressionthe nissan sentra is a terrific car and we love the sporty se-r and spec v models.  sentra 1. 8 and 1. 8 s models run smoothly and quietly. They feel stable at high speeds, and wind and tire noise are low. The 1. 8-liter engine turns a relatively calm 4500 rpm at 100 mph. At the legal limit of 70 mph, the 1. 8-liter engine turns just 3100 rpm in fifth gear when equipped with the five-speed manual. With the automatic it revs even lower at this speed. The epa rates the sentra 1. 8 and 1. 8 s at 28/35 mpg city/highway with an automatic transmission, and 28/36 with a five-speed manual. For longer life with less maintenance, the sentra engine uses a timing chain instead of a cheaper, but quieter, timing belt. Low-rpm torque and carefully mapped gearing allow 1. 8-liter automatic models to accelerate quickly from intersections, yet cruise the highway in a relaxed manner. Big motor mounts isolate the engine, deadening noise and vibration.  the 2. 5-liter engine that comes in the 2. 5 s, se-r, and spec v delivers lots of power. Throttle response is immediate, and strong torque makes for strong acceleration performance. AM/FM✔ Power Windows✔ Cruise Control✔ Air Conditioning✔ Sunroof/Moonroof✔ Alloy Wheels

2001 hyundai santa fe review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. An attractive package with looks to match. introductionthe questioner, an airport shuttle driver, had just spied the 2001 hyundai santa fe parked outside the hotel's entrance. 'that's a hyundai?' he was favorably impressed. Even without an up-close-and-personal examination, he allowed as how he'd take a close look at the santa fe if he were in shopping mode.  we were in southern california, where automotive observation has achieved post-graduate degree status. On a lengthy drive the following day, everyday folk echoed the shuttle driver's reaction. From blue-haired teens to elderly blue hairs, the response was the same: 'what's that?' 'a hyundai.' finnbar o'neill, president and chief executive officer of hyundai motor america, said the santa fe recorded a 'very high gawk factor' whenever he drove one on los angeles freeways. These initial reactions give hope for hyundai officials as the company launches its first sport-utility in the world's toughest automotive market.  while we didn't gawk, we liked what we saw. And for the most part, we liked how the santa fe drove, both on and off paved roads. lineupthe 2001 hyundai santa fe comes in three versions. They range from $18,299 to $21,999. Traction control, for instance, and abs. Also hyundai's full-time 4wd system. And automatic climate control. And the power-adjustable driver's seat and heated front seats. Hyundai has never designed a vehicle like this before, so it wasn't constrained with a sport-utility image, or that of an xuv for cross-over utility vehicle, an huv for hybrid utility vehicle, or even a cute-ute.  overall, santa fe's proportions are nicely balanced. The friendly front end blends smoothly into gentle flanks that suggest sufficient robustness to promise an off-road capability beyond that which most owners will expect or explore. Large wheel arches reinforce this robustness. The glasshouse is adequately sized. The nifty, pistol-grip latch handle makes opening the gas-strutted liftgate a one-handed cinch, while the inside-mounted pull-down grip make closing it easy. When open, the liftgate easily clears six-footers.  being new to the genre, hyundai didn't have any mistakes to undo. And rear seat passengers don't need to turn their feet sideways to clear the door jamb.  once in, the interior is mostly touch-friendly. Human-hand sized controls for the stereo and climate control system offer easy adjustment. Climate controls felt and looked plasticky, though.  seats are quite comfortable. Space-wise, the santa fe is competitive with or betters the competition. Only the ford escape beats the santa fe by more than a half-inch in front-seat headroom or hiproom.  the santa fe's rear-seat headroom equals or beats all but the suzuki grand vitara. Santa fe legroom equals or beats the competition. Rear-seat passengers get head restraints and three-point seatbelts only on the outer positions, none for the center position. The shoulder belt anchor loops are fixed, not adjustable. The restraining loops for rear-seat belt buckles don't seem very durable. Rear-seat cupholders are molded into the door-mounted map pockets.  cargo-wise, the ford escape is the only competitor significantly bettering the santa fe. For hauling cargo-type stuff, the santa fe is a nirvana of tie-down loops, boasting as many as nine, depending on the seating configuration. That's good power when compared against the v6-powered ford escape and suzuki grand vitara. Indeed, only the ford escape and mazda tribute, which come with a 200-horsepower 3. 0-liter v6, offer more power in this class. Still, we were a bit disappointed. Responsiveness was a bit sluggish. Downshifts were prompt and smooth, but somewhat less than fulfilling. Acceleration from a stoplight was, well, ok. We don't doubt the rated towing capacity, but we suspect it will be less than exhilarating.  handling, though, was excellent with minimal top-heaviness in corners. The gls proved to be much, much more fun and more responsive, no doubt the benefit of subtracting the 331 pounds the 4wd system adds. A couple of sections were challenging, but the santa fe's full-time 4wd system was more than up to the test, even without the traction control system. It's a dynamic, viscous system. Though the torque split wasn't available, we jacked up the back tires and stood on the accelerator and it raced across the room. So the system appears to do a good job of sending the torque where it's needed: to the tires with the most grip. summaryhyundai's first sport-utility looks good. It's fun to drive, particularly the front-wheel-drive gls. Power Locks✔ AM/FM✔ Climate Control✔ Air Conditioning

2003 pontiac sunfire review this car review is specific to this model, not the actual vehicle for sale. Agile and sporty, with new features for 2003. introductionthe pontiac sunfire is an agile compact coupe that's enjoyable to drive.  changes improve the sunfire for 2003. Revised front and rear styling freshens its appearance. Interior revisions improve comfort and convenience. Optional side airbags and the onstar telematics system enhance safety. Its base price looks attractive, but options will likely be needed to add desirable safety and convenience features. lineupfor 2003, the pontiac sunfire is only available as a two-door coupe. One trim level is available, the sunfire se 14,910). It comes standard with air conditioning, power rack-and-pinion steering, and 15-inch tires. A five speed manual transmission comes standard. Anti-lock brakes 400) are optional.  package 1sb 1100) adds the automatic transmission, am/fm/cd audio with six speakers, an easy-entry front passenger seat, a console cupholder, floormats, a tilt steering column, dual vanity visor mirrors.  package 1sc 3050) comes with the 1sb equipment, plus anti-lock brakes, sports suspension, p205/55r16 tires with aluminum wheels, a cargo convenience net, reading lights, overhead storage, power door locks, remote keyless entry, content theft alarm, xm satellite radio with rds and equalizer, digital clock, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather wrapped shift knob and parking brake handle, driver lumbar adjuster, intermittent wet-arm wipers  . walkaroundthe pontiac sunfire was last restyled for the 2000 model year and changes since then have been minimal. The current model looks dated and the sunfire has been redesigned for the 2003 model year.  sunfire's exterior changes for 2003 begin up front where the cat-eye headlamps and new integrated turn signals extend further into the hood. The hood was redesigned for a more aggressive appearance. Integrated fog lamps, the dual-port grille, and aerodynamic extensions are designed to give the sunfire's a sporty character.  in back are redesigned taillamps and a new body-colored applique. The back-up lights have been moved from the rear fascia and integrated with the license plate for a cleaner look. The rear spoiler, which comes standard, is designed to further the sunfire's sports appeal.  new wheel covers for the standard 15-inch steel wheels are available in a painted finish. Optional aluminum wheels are available in 15- and 16-inch sizes.  . interiornew fabric freshens the interior of the 2003 pontiac sunfire with a bold design available in graphite (gray) or taupe. The new fabric looks durable.  most drivers and passengers should find plenty of interior room. Getting in and out of the sunfire is easier than it is in many other coupes. Once in, lots of glass and effective mirrors provide good visibility. The driver sees only a little bit of the sharply slanted hood.  side-impact airbags are optional for 2003. Mounted on the front seats, they are designed to protect the thorax area of the front passengers. Onstar is also optional. Onstar operators will send safety crews to the rescue if an airbag deploys and they can't get a response. Subscribers can use the system to make hands-free cellular telephone calls. Other safety features include three-point seatbelts for all five seating positions.  the instrument panel is redesigned for 2003. New round air outlets can be rotated 360 degrees. The sunfire's instrument panel is attractive and includes a digital lcd odometer and trip odometer, a tachometer and a coolant temperature gauge. The floor console provides great functionality and includes a padded armrest. Other interior features include two forward-mounted cupholders, a concealed coin holder, and extra storage space for cds, cassettes and other items.  2003 models get a new steering wheel and it's comfortable with indentions for holding it at 10 and 2 o'clock. Radio and air-conditioning controls are angled toward the driver, the latter revised for 2003 for easier operation.  xm satellite radio is optional for 2003, which features 100 coast-to-coast channels. The eight-channel amplified system features active crossovers to direct low, midrange, and high frequencies to the appropriate speakers. Crisp bass response and clear high frequencies make for great sound.  sunfire's relatively short deck lid conceals slightly more than 12 cubic feet of trunk space, easily accessed with a low lift-over height. The rear seats in 2003 models are split 60/40 and fold down for versatility and increased cargo capacity.  the passlock theft deterrent system that comes on all sunfire models shuts the car off after a few moments if it is started with anything other than the encoded key. A single key is used for ignition and all locks, and a remote keyless entry system is optional. All sunfires are equipped with daytime running lights. While some engines tend to be peaky, providing maximum power only in a very narrow rpm range, the ecotec has a broad torque curve and that enhances the engine's driveability. It hangs on confidently in fast corners and stays poised and predictable. It is balanced well, exhibiting surprisingly little understeer for a front-wheel-drive car. Ride and handling have been improved for 2003 by stiffening the structure of the car, and re-tuning the suspension for a sportier, more controlled ride. The chassis did feel more rigid, more secure when driving quickly down a rough back roads. The revised suspension dampened road vibration reasonably well. Hitting a series of bumps didn't generate the aftershocks associated with older domestic compact cars. The chassis and suspension and steering combine to produce a good blend of ride and handling, and the car projects a secure feeling of stability and solidity. Power-assisted rack-and-pinion steering gives the sunfire quick steering response. The suspension comprises macpherson struts up front and a twist beam axle in the rear. It's not as sophisticated as the suspensions in some of the other cars in this class, but it gets the job done.  bigger rear drum brakes and more rear brake bias are designed to improve braking performance. The brake pedal feels nice and firm and the brakes are responsive. Abs is optional, but we recommend it. Slam on the brakes and the abs steps in, bringing the sunfire to an undramatic stop. Abs can be a real ally in an emergency maneuver because it allows the driver to steer the car in a panic braking situation. Revisions to this year's model improve refinement and add convenience. Sunfire is getting long in the tooth, however, so look for deals. model lineupse coupe 14,910). assembled inlordstown, ohio; ramos arizpe, mexico. options as testedpackage 1sc 3050) includes automatic transmission, am/fm/cd audio with six speakers, an easy-entry front passenger seat, a console cupholder, floormats, a tilt steering column, dual vanity visor mirrors, anti-lock brakes, sports suspension, p205/55r16 tires with aluminum wheels, a cargo convenience net, reading lights, overhead storage, power door locks, remote keyless entry, content theft alarm, xm satellite radio with rds and equalizer, digital clock, leather-wrapped steering wheel, leather wrapped shift knob and parking brake handle, driver lumbar adjuster, intermittent wet-arm wipers. model testedpontiac sunfire se 14,910).
